Evelyn Scarborough Earns 11th Place in North American Cup Fencing Competition
SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary student Evelyn Scarborough earned an 11th place finish at a U.S. Fencing Association Division I North American Cup held in Chattanooga, Tenn., April 15-18.
Division I is the highest rated fencing tournament in the United States and drew competitors from the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Hungary, New Zealand, Israel and the Ukraine.
Scarborough entered the tournament ranked 28th in the U.S. for Senior Women's Epee. This result will give her a significant boost in the rankings which will be used to select USA team members for the Senior World Fencing Championships in Leipzig, Germany.
She is a junior biology major from Shreveport. She began her fencing career at Caddo Magnet High School. A member of the Shreveport Fencing Club, she brought home a bronze medal from the 2003 World Cup in Kentucky, the first international medal for the Shreveport Fencing Club.
