Centenary Student Wins Silver Medal in National Fencing Championships
SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary student Evelyn Scarborough took the silver medal in Division I-A Women's Epee at the U.S. Fencing Association's Summer National Championships held in Sacramento, Calif., July 1-10.
This year the Summer National Championships consisted of 95 events with over 5000 entries. Scarborough entered the Division I-A event ranked third in a field of 67 competitors. She lost the championship bout to Princeton University senior and former U.S. national team member Eleanor Leighton. Scarborough's finish guarantees her qualification for next year's Division I and Division I-A National Championships.
Scarborough is a senior biology major at Centenary, lives in Shreveport and currently fences for the Caddo Magnet Alumni Fencers Club.
