'Check Your Ride' Program Oct. 11-12 to Help Centenary Students Check Their Vehicles Before Departing for Fall Break
SHREVEPORT, LA — Students who may be a bit behind the curve when it comes to automobile service — or those who just want to be sure their car's fluids and air pressure are up to par — can take advantage of "Check Your Ride" on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 11 and 12, at Centenary College.
Officers and employees of the Centenary Department of Public Safety will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the two days before Centenary's Fall Break begins to check vehicles and to teach Centenary students some of the basics.
Students will be able to drive up to the circular drive in front of the Anderson Choral Building for a quick checkup before they head out on the road.
"We will be checking oil, water, wiper blades, coolant and tire pressure," said Zeke Aull, director of public safety. "If they are low on fluids we will add those. If tire pressure is a problem we will air up tires. If they need something like windshield wiper blades or something major, we will advise them about how to get that done."
The whole idea is to promote student safety before road trips and to present a learning experience for those who may be charged for the first time with vehicle maintenance on their own.
DPS officials plan to offer the service before every major holiday or school break, standing by with water and other fluids, funnels and air compressor in hand. Said Aull: "We may even wash some windshields."
