Centenary Kappa Alphas Earn National, Province Awards for Scholastic Performance, Chapter Improvement
SHREVEPORT, LA — Members of Centenary College's Alpha Iota Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order returned from the annual Province Council meeting in New Orleans with two of the three major awards of the event.
The chapter earned the Outstanding Scholastic Performance Award, a national recognition, as well as the Most Improved Chapter Award among the 11 chapters in Louisiana. The recognition was announced at the end of the March 18 meeting of the Horace White Province, which was held on the campus of Tulane University.
Chapter President Robert Schaumburg, a senior from Shreveport, La., said the Centenary chapter has grown by 40 percent over the preceding year, has performed more than 300 hours of community service work and has hosted seminars featuring speakers about gambling and DUI. In addition, he said, the chapter's scholastic record places it in the top 25 percent of all KA chapters nationally.
