Hurley Faculty Member Featured Soloist for Longview Symphony

SHREVEPORT, LA — Chandler Teague, Centenary lecturer in Music, will be the featured soloist for the opening concert of the Longview Symphony season on Saturday, October 22. The performance will be held at S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center at LeTourneau University.

Musical Celebration

Teague will be performing the "Concerto for Solo Percussion and Chamber Orchestra" by Richard Rodney Bennett. The concerto is in four movements and lasts about 26 minutes. The symphony’s performance will also feature Gabriel Fauré’s "Pavane, Op. 50" and Beethoven’s "Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67."

Chandler Teague is an alumnus of Centenary College, and has been the percussion teacher in the Hurley School of Music since 1979. He has been the Principal Timpanist and Percussionist of the Longview Symphony since 1980. He holds the same position with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and Opera East Texas. Teague has performed with the St. Louis Symphony, the Municipal Opera Association of St. Louis, and popular entertainers such as Jerry Lewis, Don Rickles, Gladys Knight, and Nancy Wilson and with touring productions of A Chorus Line, South Pacific, Pippin, and the Ice Capades.

Teague received the 2008 Music Fellowship Award from the Shreveport Regional Arts Council.
