SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary faculty and alumnae have been published in The Southern Poetry Anthology, Volume IV: Louisiana, a series featuring contemporary poetry of the South.

Anthology Cover

The 272 page anthology includes pieces by Dr. David Havird, Centenary professor of English; Ashley Mace Havird, frequent Centenary adjunct; alumna Rachel Reischling '04; and Jennifer Strange '99, an alumna and Centenary adjunct.

Former Louisiana Poet Laureate Darrell Bourque identified both Havirds in the introduction of the book as "teacher-poets…whose work as poets and teachers make(s) for the strong writing programs we have in the state."

The poems of Pulitzer Prize-winning Corrington medalist Yusef Komunyakaa and current Louisiana Poet Laureate Julie Kane also appear in the anthology. Carlos Colon, an active member of the Shreveport-Bossier writing community, is represented as well.

Published by the Texas Review Press, The Southern Poetry Anthology is a projected 12-16 volume project celebrating established and emerging poets of the American South who have achieved interesting, textured voices.

The Southern Poetry Anthology, Volume IV: Louisiana is currently available through Texas A&M University Press and Amazon.
