26th Annual Centenary Book Bazaar draws huge crowd, record sales
SHREVEPORT, LA — Thousands of Shreveport-Bossier community members visited the Centenary Gold Dome, September 7-8, for the 26th Annual Centenary Book Bazaar. The Bazaar is organized and sponsored by the Centenary Muses, a philanthropic group dedicated to funding student-centered projects.
"This year's Bazaar raised a record amount for student projects," said David Williams, Associate Manager of Advancement Services and liaison to the Muses. "Year after year, the Muses’ tireless efforts and winning attitudes make the Book Bazaar a success. We are also thankful for the continued support of the Shreveport-Bossier community, who came out in droves to buy our books and volunteer their time."
Among those volunteers was Centenary senior Ashley Twyman. She has volunteered for the Book Bazaar many times throughout her years at Centenary and has benefitted from the Muses’ philanthropic work.
"I am a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Muses donate to travel funds that enable us to attend retreats," said Twyman. "The best part of this, though, is to volunteer during the actual Bazaar. I love to see little kids grabbing as many books as they can like they are in a candy store. They are so pumped about reading!"
Last year alone, the Muses awarded over $70,000 to student projects, which included equipping the Gold Dome with WiFi, renovating the Student Resource Center, and repairing recreational equipment in the Student Union Building.
The 2013 Book Bazaar will be held September 6-7 in the Gold Dome. The Muses will hold Book Drop Days throughout the year.
