Centenary Archives displays Louisiana Annual Conference Traditions, 1847-2006
SHREVEPORT, LA — A new exhibit, Reviewing the Past and Preparing for the Future: Louisiana Annual Conference Traditions, 1847-2006, from the Centenary Archives and Special Collections is now on display in the Whited Room lobby of Bynum Commons. The exhibit highlights archival material related to the history of annual conference meetings organized by the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church and its predecessor denominations.
The display includes excerpts from the first meeting of the Louisiana Conference Methodist Episcopal Church South (1847) and the Louisiana Conference Methodist Episcopal Church (1869). It also includes photographs from annual conference meetings that date back to 1898.
Centenary Archivist Chris Brown '01 and student workers Kayla Ruth and Hope Vollm researched and prepared the exhibit. The exhibit is on display from April through July 2013 and is also accessible online at centenary.edu/archives.
The mission of the Centenary College Archives and Special Collections is to collect, preserve, and make available the historic records of the College and the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. For more information, contact Chris Brown at 318.869.5462 or email.
