Charles T. Beaird Endowed Professorships

On October 17, 2005 the Louisiana Board of Regents made a formal presentation of a check to Centenary College, which included $80,000 to endow two Beaird Professorships for the Philosophy Department. This money is a state match for the $120,000 private donation of Dr. Beaird, who was a long-time generous supporter of Centenary and the Philosophy Department in particular. In the early 1990s, Dr. Beaird also donated $1 million to create the Charles T. Beaird Endowed Chair in Philosophy, currently occupied by Ken Aizawa.

Dr. Beaird was a 1966 graduate Centenary graduate in philosophy, who received his Ph.D. in philosophy from Columbia in 1972. He also taught philosophy at Centenary for many years. In addition to his academic career, Dr. Beaird was a member of the Centenary Board of Trustees, a prominent Shreveport businessman, journalist, and philanthropist.

Centenary and the Philosophy Department owe Dr. Beaird an immense debt of gratitude for his long history of immensely generous support.
