Guidelines for Organizational Partnership with Service Learning

The agency:

  • supports the mission of Centenary's Service-Learning program
  • carries non-profit statue as described by the Internal Revenue Code-Section 501 (c) (3)
  • places students to serve in areas not related to clerical, maintenance, or fundraising
  • trains and supervises the Service-Learning student
  • provides a safe environment in which the student serves

The student:

  • understands the mission of Centenary's Service-Learning program
  • attends an orientation/pre-flection before beginning a service project
  • contibutes no less than 27 clock-hours of service in one and only one agency
  • serves in projects not related to preaching or proselytizing
  • serves in projects that do not benefit the College or the "College family"
  • participates in the learning experience as defined by the department supervising the service
  • receives no academic credit
  • receives no monetary compensation
  • answers the post-project questionnaire

The College:

  • promotes the mission of Centenary's Service-Learning program
  • disqualifies itself as the primary beneficiary of the service
