How We Advertise Job Openings:
All positions will be placed in the job books located in the Career Center. Part time opportunities will be placed on the Center’s web site within 24 hours. Job postings will remain in the books for approximately 2 months unless a continuous posting is requested. Continuous postings must be renewed every 3 months. To remove a job posting, simply contact the Career Center. We would appreciate a notice when the job has been filled, and to know if a Centenary student has filled the position.
Internships
An internship is a supervised academic program whereby students gain practical hands-on experience in a professional setting such as a hospital or business. The internship sponsor gains an enthusiastic staff assistant who may or may not be paid.
Organization Supervisor Responsibilities
- Certain expectations should be met for the benefit of the organization as well as the student.
- The organization must be supportive of Affirmative Action guidelines and not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, age, religion, or ethnic background.
- The organization will provide a minimum of 120 hours of work time for the student. The internship may be paid or unpaid depending on the agreement.
- The organization will be willing to provide adequate evaluation of the student during the semester. The organization supervisor must have the appropriate credentials and/or license for the type of internship. The organization supervisor will complete a student internship evaluation form at the completion of the internship.
- The internship faculty advisor must be able to call and/or make site visit during the semester.
- Internship hours should be flexible with the student's schedule.
- The internship should include work that may produce a tangible or written product by the student at the end of the semester.
- The organization supervisor will provide the intern with an overall orientation to the organizations specific services necessary for their implementation of the internship experience. The intern should have the opportunity to attend meetings, conferences and workshops when feasible.
Student Intern Responsibilities
- Students are responsible for reporting problems and progress to faculty advisor and organization supervisor. If unable to complete work projects as assigned, it is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with the advisor and supervisor.
- Students will observe strict punctuality and attendance, notifying organization supervisor of an inability to keep to the schedule in advance.
- Students will be knowledgeable in principles of confidentiality and ethical practice, and will adhere to them at all times.
- The student intern will conduct themselves in a professional manner, which includes compliance with the facility's policies and procedures, dress code, and with the terms of the internship agreement.
- Students will take the initiative to educate them in the academic area covered by the internship.
- Prior to the internship, students will submit written, measurable objectives, which will be subject to the approval of the college advisor and internship supervisor.
