Normal Website to Be Restored

Since electric power is now stablized at Centenary, centenary.edu will become available again over the course of the afternoon. When exactly you see the change depends on a number of factors to do with the way domain names are handled across the Internet.

In some cases, it may even be necessary for you to restart your browser or computer in order to be able to successfully navigate to centenary.edu.

Thank you for you patience as services are restored.

Power Outages Expected Saturday Night

The IT department at Centenary has issued the following statement with reference to Saturday evening weather effects:

We are expecting power outages within the hour.

The following services will be UNAVAILABLE starting at 5PM today and will be back up as soon as we feel assured the power will be on and stable:

  • Ontime
  • All group and user folders
  • Printing to all network printers
  • Blackboard Academic and Commerce

We will keep Mail, Internet access, and Windows logins up as long as possible.  If power does fail we will shut them down with very little notice due to the amount of battery time available to get the services down safely.

Centenary Prepares for Hurricane Ike

As we brace for the effects of Hurricane Ike in the local area, Centenary is moving forward to enact its emergency plans. Due to this emergency situation and probability of losing power, the .edu website will be redirected to our .tv site as of 4:30 pm today, Friday, September 12. All .edu traffic will automatically be directed to the .tv site. Because of the way domain names are handled across the Internet, you may not actually experience this redirection until sometime on Saturday, Sept. 13 and/or after a reboot of your computer.

Be aware that outages might affect functionality of web resources beyond the main centenary.edu site as well. Depending upon conditions, additional resources (Webmail, Banner, and Blackboard in particular) may also become temporarily unavailable. Prior to such potential disruptions, however, you will be able to follow links to these and other services from a set of resources along the right-hand side of the emergency .tv site.

Utilizing the abbreviated emergency message site is necessary to ensure we can use the web to provide a singular source of emergency information to the campus community. Additionally, our primary web server is hosted on our campus, which makes it subject to the same power outages that affect other resources in our area. Although we are making preparations to permanently relocate the server offsite to allow for continuous operations irrespective of local outages, our current best mechanism for weathering the storm is to provide communications via our backup message site.

As soon as the weather allows, all traffic will again pointed to the .edu resources. Thank you all for your patience in this matter.
