Study Abroad Opportunities
To really understand other cultures, it is essential to live in them. Centenary encourages its students to spend time in foreign countries. If you would like to improve your Spanish while experiencing Spain or Latin America, there are always opportunities to do so. Each May, Centenary offers at least one two week trip to a Spanish speaking country. This year (2001-2002) students have the chance to study in Spain. The college has scholarships to help fund one module for each student during their 4 years in school, so this is an exciting and affordable opportunity.
If you wish to spend more time abroad, Centenary has organized other programs. For the academic year, we have an exchange program with the Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico. Students who go on this program live with Mexican families and can take regular courses at the university in addition to language courses. Guanajuato is a beautifully preserved colonial city not too far from Mexico's capital. It is also the birth place of muralist Diego Rivera. The benefits of this program are that, because it is an exchange, students pay Centenary and the rest is taken care of. If, however, Mexico is not your thing, it is possible to join other universities' programs in Spain, Argentina, Costa Rica or anywhere else in Latin America.. Talk to the Spanish faculty or Intercultural Studies Director, Grace Bareikis, about your options. Buen Viaje!!!
