Brooke Hudsmith

What was your parent's advice on selecting a college?

They told me to pick somewhere that I felt at home and where I would be able to have as many opportunities as possible.

Why did you choose Centenary College?

It offered a close knit community and a place where I could see myself for the next 4 years. I felt at home and I still keep in touch with the people who gave me my tour and my admissions counselor.

Can you describe what the Centenary Experience means to you?

Hudsmith picture

It's an overall combination of the students, faculty and staff. It is seeing your friends across campus and yelling at them and not feeling self conscious. It is staying in the library studying until they kick you out then moving to the Jackson Hall computer lab with everyone else who hasn't completed their assignments. It's meeting your friends in the café and staying there for a long time. It's being rivals on the intramural field and going to get an ICEE in Randle's with an opponent afterward. It is long nights spent working on FYE projects and so much more. It's the friendships.

What do you think sets Centenary apart from other colleges?

Everyone knows each other and genuinely likes one another…at most schools people only know people in their mjor or grade and at centenary some of my best friends are 2 years older and younger than me.

What is the interaction between student and faculty like at Centenary?

They are some of your best friends and mentors who you can go to with anything. They want to share your victories with you.

What makes a successful student?

Someone who is well rounded…they don't have to have the best grades but as long as they give it their all that is their best!

What was the hardest transition for you coming from high school to college and how do you cope?

I think it was probably self-motivation. Professors tend to motivate you a lot and meet with you if they think you may need some help.

What has been your favorite class and professor?

Biology 101 with Dr. Scott Chirhart

What have been some cool things to do around campus?

Explore all of the buildings and play capture the flag around campus.

What do you enjoy about Centenary?

Everything from chicken-nugget night to waking up early to meet friends before class.
