Cole Thompson
Cole could have gone to a number of colleges after graduating from high school. He was recruited by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a few other Ivy League schools. He chose Centenary College because it was close to home, has strong academic programs and reputation, and still gave him the opportunity to play baseball.
"My parent’s advice was to use my grades to help me play baseball at a school that I may not get into without baseball," said Cole. "I came from a small private high school, so Centenary is really like a bigger version of my high school experience. The family atmosphere you feel while attending Centenary, by far, sets it apart from other colleges."
What makes the Centenary experience?
It is really nice going to such a small school because it feels like a family atmosphere and you are able to develop close friendships with your professors.
What do you enjoy about Centenary?
I enjoy all the friends I have and that fact that I know most everyone on campus.
What is the interaction between student and faculty like at Centenary?
I would have to say that not many schools in America have as good of a student-faculty relationship as Centenary. Your professors know who you are and are extremely willing to help you be successful.
What was the hardest transition for you coming from high school students to college and how do you cope?
The hardest transition for me has been learning how to manage my time. I have learned to do things today so you are a step ahead of everyone else tomorrow.
What have you learned about YOURSELF while here?
I have learned to not settle for average and that if I want to reach the next level, I have to out work my peers day in and day out. I have learned from others what it takes to be a true friend.
What are your thoughts on the Shreveport-Bossier area?
Some of my favorite things to do around town are going to the Louisiana Boardwalk, and playing Frisbee golf on the course on Clyde Fant Parkway. I am from Texas so of course, I think nothing is better than a Texas sunrise and sunset, but I really like Louisiana, especially the Cajun food!
What are your plans after graduation?
I hope to play professional baseball after I finish school. If that doesn’t work out, I would like to work in the front office of a professional sports team as a general manager or financial advisor.
