Student: Catlin Orschel
Only one other person in sophomore Catlin Orschel’s graduating high school class left Michigan to attend college. But that didn’t stop the soccer star and devoted Christian from coming down south to Shreveport. "It was the first college I visited that actually felt right to me," she explains. "The history, close-knit community feel, small environment, incredibly gorgeous campus, and top academics really made me feel confident about attending Centenary."
Though majoring in biochemistry, minoring in Spanish, and competing as an NCAA Division I athlete would be enough to keep anyone busy, Catlin nonetheless finds time to enjoy Shreveport. “Shreveport-Bossier City is a beautiful area! The Boardwalk and the riverfront are some of my favorite places to go. Campus life is amazing; there is always something going on! Whether it's Casino Night, the Miss-ter Centenary pageant, Battle-of-the-Bands, or Capture the Flag, there is never an opportunity to be bored. And,” she laughs, "I think I have gotten more T-shirts from events my first year at Centenary than I did all through high school!"

Getting involved as a Resident Assistant, a member of both Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has opened up a lot of doors for Catlin. When asked about her favorites, she responds, "I went to the National College Conference for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in early 2009. It was incredible to meet athletes around the nation that share a passion of God. I'm really excited to bring some ideas back to the FCA at Centenary." She has also recently been hired as the Marketing Representative for Princeton Review on Centenary’s campus. "I'm really excited to take on this role," she says, "and I hope that more students will be involved with the services and employment that Princeton Review offers."
Catlin came to Centenary College looking for a top-notch academic experience and a friendly, close-knit social atmosphere that would help her grow as a student and a person. She hasn’t been disappointed. In fact, she readily explains, "The Centenary Experience is trying new things, stepping out and adventuring. I think Centenary is about not being complacent and not being satisfied until you have done more, worked harder, and experienced unfamiliar things."
