Faculty/staff/student protocols for COVID-19

Confirmed positive COVID test with symptoms (symptomatic)

Individuals with a confirmed positive COVID-19 test who are displaying symptoms must immediately self-isolate until ALL of the following conditions are met:

  • 10 days have passed since the onset of symptoms
  • 24 hours have passed without fever (without the use of fever-reducing medications) and other symptoms.

Confirmed positive students will be monitored and assisted by Health Services (all students) and Residence Life staff.

Confirmed positive faculty and staff will be supported through Human Resources.

Confirmed positive COVID test with no symptoms (asymptomatic)

Individuals with a confirmed positive COVID test who are not displaying symptoms must immediately self-isolate after receiving a positive test result, and must remain isolated until at least 10 days have passed since the positive test. During self-isolation, the individual should:

  • Monitor symptoms and log temperature at least twice daily
  • Contact a healthcare provider if symptoms worsen
  • Stay away from others, especially those who might be at higher risk from COVID-19

Confirmed positive students will be monitored and assisted by Health Services (all students) and Residence Life staff.

Confirmed positive faculty and staff will be supported through Human Resources.

Close contact with confirmed positive COVID case

Individuals who learn or are informed that they have had close contact* with an individual who tests positive for COVID-19 must immediately quarantine for 14 days after their last known contact with the positive individual. During quarantine, the individual should:

  • Monitor symptoms and log temperature at least twice daily
  • Contact a healthcare provider if symptoms worsen
  • Stay away from others, especially those who might be at higher risk from COVID-19
  • Continue quarantining for the full 14 days after last known contact even after a negative COVID-19 test (Symptoms may appear from two to 14 days after exposure to the virus)

Quarantining students will be monitored and assisted by Health Services (all students) and Residence Life staff.

Quarantining faculty and staff will be supported through Human Resources.

What is "close contact?"

The CDC defines “close contact” as being within six feet for more than 15 minutes with an individual who meets the following criteria:

  • Confirmed positive for COVID-19 and displaying symptoms (Time period: two days before the onset of symptoms until cleared to discontinue self-isolation)
  • Confirmed positive for COVID-19 and displaying no symptoms (Time period: two days before test date until cleared to discontinue self-isolation)
