If you're looking for GRE, MCAT, and other grad school test prep, this is a good place to look. There are prep materials, including practice tests, for most instruments you might find yourself needing to take.

  Academic Search Complete  

One of the better-known standard academic indexes, this full-text database allows you to find scholarly articles on topics in most subject areas. It also includes a large number of trade and popular publications, though. Filter wisely. I mean, you should be filtering wisely, anyway, but especially here.

  American Chemical Society Publications

Accesses ACS publications with content from 1996 through the current year. You can download the ACS Central Science app "for easy access to groundbreaking research," which sounds almost dangerous... be careful, I guess.

  Annual Reviews

Includes literature reviews on a wide array of topics within the social, biomedical, and physical sciences. If you're looking for recent surveys of high-quality academic research, stopping by here is probably not the worst idea you've had today.

  APA PsycINFO  

The premier abstracting and indexing database covering the behavioral and social sciences from the authority in psychology. This means something, because you know how psychologists are, am I right?

  Biography in Context  

Offers authoritative reference content covering numerous historically significant figures and contemporary newsmakers. Maybe you're in there.

Black Life in America Series

This database includes primary source materials documenting the experience and impact of African Americans as recorded in news media, from the early 18th century to 1975. This 2-part series is sourced from more than 19,000 American and global news sources, including over 400 current and historical Black publications.

CQ Researcher  

An inside-the-beltway and in-depth swath of coverage of current and prominent political and social issues, with regular reports on international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy. Standard format includes an introductory overview of each issue indexed, followed by background and an assessment of the current situation. Supporting documentation includes numerous tables and maps, as well as pro/con heuristics from representatives of opposing positions, and bibliographies of key sources. What else... the pro/con and issue tracker tools are pretty useful, though sometimes too divorced from the contemporary internet context to be very useful for up-to-the-minute analysis.

Credo Reference  

Credo is a large database of encyclopedias, including content from over 1200 reference titles. Searchable by keyword just like your old friend Wikipedia, you can also browse individual reference book titles, deploy concept maps to see connections between ideas, and explore overview pages for a wide variety of research topics.

  E-Duke University Press Book Collection

Duke University Press e-book collection offers 2,600+ e-books in the humanities and social sciences, and can be browsed by subject or searched by keyword. Note that these titles should be findable using our regular catalog (enterprise) search.

Encyclopedia Britannica Academic

We still need encyclopedias. There, I said it. This database includes: Encyclopedia Britannica, Britannica's Internet Guide, Multimedia files, an interactive world atlas, timelines, Book of the Year, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Collegiate Thesaurus 10th Edition.

ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center)

Maintained by the Department of Education, the ERIC website is the world's largest collection of education article citations, and this interface provides a convenient way too get to the full text of much of that. Here is an instructional video on searching ERIC.Also available through EBSCO, above.

First Search

This is an OCLC platform, and you can use it to find article- and book-level information based on library holdings worldwide. It is not a full-text database, but it is a good overview of what libraries have collected. First Search contains 15 selected databases: Article First, Electronic Books (Ebooks), ERIC, MEDLINE, Papers First, SCIPIO, Clase and Periodica, Electronic Collections Online (ECO), GPO Monthly Catalog, Proceedings First (Proceedings), WorldCat, and WorldCat Dissertations and Theses (WorldCatDissertations).

A comprehensive, web-based resource for research and communications in the geosciences.

Hispanic Life in America

Covers the Hispanic American experience from the early 18th century to the present day. Contains over 17,000 publications, 700 Spanish-language newspapers and periodicals. An "easy-to-use online resource" that is updated daily with new material that shows centuries of Hispanic history, culture, and daily life.

ICPSR-Sharing Data to Advance Science

An international consortium of more than 750 academic institutions and research organizations. Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) provides leadership and training in data access, curation, methods of analysis for the social science research community. ICPSR maintains a data archive of over 250,000 files of research in the social and behavioral sciences. This data-finding tool oriented around the social sciences comes out of the University of Michigan. Woot!   JSTOR

JSTOR Arts and Sciences I, II, and III Interdisciplinary Collections
JSTOR is an online archive of journals, academic ebooks, and primary sources. It doesn't include recently-published materials, and is searchable by combining keywords only.

This is the searchable index to the world's most comprehensive collection of multidisciplinary dissertations and theses, spanning works from 1861 through the present day. Dissertations are excellent tools for conducting literature reviews and exploring cutting-edge ideas from great universities all over the world, but we may need to help you get to the full-text.   Proquest Nursing & Allied Health Source  

The database offers reliable, comprehensive coverage of the fields of nursing and allied health, and is an ideal counterpart to CINAHL (indexed by EBSCO and available above).
