Muses' Book Bazaar Funds Campus Projects

A long standing tradition in Shreveport-Bossier, the upcoming 32nd annual Centenary Book Bazaar promises a book sale experience like no other as the Gold Dome at Centenary is transformed into a spectacular event, showcasing books from one end of the Dome to the other. Local buyers, those from various states, and very dedicated annual patrons start lining up early to be the first to get their hands on selections for sale.

Early birds begin lining up at 12:00 for the 4:00 PM opening, and by the time the Bazaar opens the line is wrapped around the Gold Dome. “It’s like meeting old friends every year. The atmosphere is great and everyone is excited to see what the Bazaar will have from year to year,” said Dr. Grace Bareikis, a long time Centenary Muse and Book Bazaar volunteer. “A lot of the patrons return every year and it has become a known staple in the community. Since it is set the Friday and Saturday after Labor Day every year, the dedicated patrons always know when to put the Bazaar on their calendar.”

The annual Centenary Book Bazaar is organized and sponsored by the Centenary Muses, a philanthropic group dedicated to enhancing the campus experience for Centenary students. Proceeds from the Bazaar are used to fund projects and programs for Centenary students, and those funds do not go unnoticed.

Over the years, proceeds from the Bazaar have totaled more than $1 million and continue to make a lasting impact on the College. “It would be hard to find any organization on campus that has not been touched by the Book Bazaar at some point,” said David Williams, College liaison with the Muses. “The Centenary Muses have become a valuable and significant supporter of the College,” said Bareikis. “We specifically fund things that do not have funds set aside already. Funds are always tight, but when someone has a great idea for campus, it is nice to know that they can always ask the Muses for assistance to make the campus better.”

The 32nd annual Bazaar will take place Friday, September 7 and Saturday, September 8 in the Centenary Gold Dome. The Centenary College Muses are still taking donations for the upcoming event at the Centenary Book House. You can bring donations to the Book House from 10-2 any Monday and Wednesday. The Centenary Book House is located in Centenary Square, 108 East Kings Highway, and there is also a drop box outside for after hours book donations.
