Master of Educational Leadership Program Overview

Centenary College of Louisiana is relaunching its Master of Educational Leadership (M.Ed) — a 36-credit-hour hybrid graduate program designed for working educators who are ready to step into leadership roles in schools, districts, and communities. Beginning in August 2026, this program provides advanced preparation for aspiring principals, supervisors, and district-level administrators, as well as those seeking leadership roles in community-based and nonprofit organizations.

Rooted in Centenary's mission to prepare global citizens to live productive lives of vitality and purpose, the M.Ed. is built around the National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) Standards and emphasizes leadership as both an educational and civic responsibility. Graduates will be equipped to lead with vision, equity, and integrity — fostering collaboration and continuous improvement in the schools and communities they serve.

M. Ed Frequently Asked Questions

What is the M.Ed hybrid program? Are courses online or in-person?

Centenary's program stands apart from regional competitors by offering a meaningful face-to-face component in a personalized, small-cohort environment. While online-only programs are widely available in Louisiana, there is a demonstrated gap in accessible hybrid programs with strong faculty engagement and community-based learning. Centenary's distinctive strengths, like its low student-to-faculty ratio, culture of close mentorship, and ties to the Shreveport-Bossier region, extend naturally into this graduate program.

Who should apply to the M.Ed program?

This program is designed for professionals who hold a bachelor's degree and have at least three years of experience in an educational setting.

Ideal candidates include:

  • Licensed classroom teachers pursuing principal or supervisory certification
  • Educators in private school or higher education settings seeking advanced leadership credentials
  • Community and nonprofit professionals with an educational background who want to deepen their organizational leadership skills

How much does the M.Ed program cost?

The program is competitively priced. Tuition is $361 per credit hour, making the whole program less than $13,000 for the 12 courses.

What are the M.Ed program admission requirements?

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a content area with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Three years of documented experience in an educational field
  • Active Level 2 or Level 3 professional teaching certificate (Louisiana public school teachers) OR three years of experience in role (private school/higher education professionals)
  • Letter of recommendation/support from principal or supervisor
