Centenary Camerata presents spring concert April 20 at Hurley School of Music

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College’s Camerata choral ensemble will perform its spring concert on Saturday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium at the College’s Hurley School of Music. The concert, programmed entirely by Camerata members, features a wide variety of choral genres and musical styles. The event is free and open to the public.

“This semester, Camerata members were tasked with choosing their own repertoire for a concert,” said Dr. Cory Wikan, Dean of the Hurley School of Music and director of Camerata. “We began the semester by discussing what goes into programming a concert for an ensemble we lead, a way to expose aspiring conductors and music educators to a task they will repeatedly need to do throughout their career. Students were placed in pairs and proposed a few choral pieces that were appropriate for an ensemble such as Camerata. Following presentations that informed other members about those selections, students voted on all possibilities. Narrowed to approximately 13 pieces, Camerata's Spring 2024 Concert presents the fruits of both their programming and rehearsal labors.”

Camerata, founded in 1983, is the select chamber choir from the Hurley School of Music. The composition of the group is primarily voice majors, though membership is open to all Centenary students by audition.
