Centenary celebrates Giving Tuesday on December 1

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College will once again reach out to friends and supporters on Giving Tuesday, a nationwide, online day of philanthropy. Held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday follows the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This year’s Giving Tuesday observance is Tuesday, December 1.

Centenary raised over $140,000 on Giving Tuesday in 2019 and hopes to exceed that total in 2020 with a goal of $200,000 to support student scholarships and critical needs on campus.

"We appreciate all who help advance the mission of Centenary through their philanthropy and look forward to a successful day of giving to support our students, professors and programs,” said Fred Landry, vice president for development.

Landry and Centenary president Dr. Christopher L. Holoman will kick off Giving Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. with a live event on Facebook. The live feed will be available on both the main Centenary College of Louisiana page and the Centenary College Alumni Association page.

The Giving Tuesday effort relies primarily on social media and email appeals encouraging community members to join the online giving effort. An addition to the Centenary Giving Tuesday campaign this year will be a Class Reunion Challenge to raise funds for an annual class scholarship to support current Ladies and Gents. Members of the classes of 1970 (50 Years), 1995 (25 Years), 2010 (10 Years) and 2015 (5 Years) will engage in a giving challenge to see which Reunion Class earns bragging rights for most dollars raised and most participating class members. The Reunion Classes will be recognized during class reunion celebrations anticipated in spring 2021, and all annual class scholarships will be awarded at the College’s annual Legacy Luncheon.

Beginning December 1 at 12:00 a.m., Centenary supporters can visit centenary.edu/GivingTuesday  to make a donation as part of Centenary Giving Tuesday. For more information about Centenary Giving Tuesday, visit centenary.edu/GivingTuesday or contact Brooke Rinaudo at brinaudo@centenary.edu.
