Centenary, City of Shreveport honor Dr. Donald Webb’s 100th birthday

Born in Wales in 1926, Dr. Webb has lived a life defined by service, leadership, and education. He served eight years in the British Royal Navy during World War II before moving to the United States with his family, where he pursued advanced theological degrees and built a career as a United Methodist pastor, professor, and college administrator.

Dr. Webb served as Centenary College’s 28th president from 1977 to 1991, leading the institution through a pivotal period of growth and strengthening its academic, financial, and church affiliations. As president emeritus, he remained active in community and church organizations, including the Volunteers of America Lighthouse program, mentoring students for decades.

In honor of Webb’s lasting contributions to the college and the community, Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux has issued a proclamation designating May 4, 2026, as Dr. Donald A. Webb Day in Shreveport, and Centenary College president Christopher Holoman has declared likewise.

The college collected hundreds of birthday cards for Webb from faculty, staff, students and alumni, which were delivered to him at a drive-by birthday celebration at his home on Sunday.

Widely known for his optimism and lifelong commitment to service, Dr. Webb’s centennial celebration recognizes a legacy that has shaped generations in Shreveport and beyond.
