Centenary College celebrates Homecoming Week; honors outstanding alumni
Centenary College has been celebrating 2025 Homecoming events and honoring alumni, this week, and an exciting weekend of events is still to come.
Thursday evening, the 2025 Alumni Awards Banquet honored alumni of distinction along with bestowing the Forward 5 Awards. Each year, five young alumni, across a variety of fields, are highlighted for having made a significant impact in business, research, leadership, public service and/or philanthropic endeavors. The 2025 Forward 5 recipients were:
- Erasmo Valdez ’15
- Sarah Dant Maples ’20
- Dr. Kyle Kaemer ’13
- Dr. Chad Nelson ’13
- Alissa Brown Klaus ’19
The Awards Banquet also recognized people who have brought distinction to the College. This year’s honorees were:
- Bentley Sloane Award – Mariah Pitre ’14
- Alumni Loyalty Award – Russel Young ’04
- Honorary Alumna – Calhoun Allen
- Alumni Hall of Fame – Denis Poljak ’94

On Saturday, October 25th, a brunch will be held to honor the Class of 1975. The Alumni members of 50-plus years get to join the “Quinq Club” and receive pins and certificates. At noon, football tailgating begins for the game against McMurry University from Abilene, TX. Kickoff will be at 5:00 p.m. Then at 7:00 p.m., the Centenary Choir’s first performance and 80th reunion of Rhapsody in View will begin at First Baptist Shreveport. The week-long Homecoming celebration concludes on Sunday with the Choir’s Rhapsody matinee performance.
Tickets for the football game may be purchased here. General Admission tickets cost $15 for anyone age 13 or older. Children under 12 cost $5.
Tickets for Rhapsody in View purchased in advance are $15. At the door, the cost is $17. Students pay only $10. Contact the Hurley School of Music at 318.869.5235 for more information. Centenary Choir and Downtown Shreveport Lions Club members are also selling tickets.
