Centenary College Hosts Three-Part Community Speaker Series on A.I.
Centenary College of Louisiana is hosting a three-part community speaker series on artificial intelligence this September, October and November. The series is free and open to the public, and registration is available online.
The first installment, “AI 101: Understanding Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Life,” will be held Sept. 22 at 11:15 a.m. in the Whited Room. AI is increasingly part of how people work, learn, communicate and navigate everyday life, and understanding what it can and cannot do is becoming just as important as knowing how to use it. A panel of speakers will discuss what AI is, how it is already being used, practical ways to engage with AI tools and key considerations for responsible use.
Panelists include Dr. Denise Robb, Atkins Family Centennial Eminent Scholars Endowed Professor of Business and assistant professor of business and management; Dr. Rudi Banerjee, Board of Regents Endowed Professor in the Natural Sciences and assistant professor of physics; and Dr. Rachel Johnson, Centenary Endowed Professor of Leadership, director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and assistant professor of education and English.

Centenary has long emphasized critical thinking and problem-solving — skills that are essential to using AI effectively and ethically. Our students and graduates will help lead the way in applying AI to faster medical breakthroughs, innovative business practices, and creative work. We're excited for everything planned this year, including our upcoming AI and the Liberal Arts Competition this spring.”
The second installment, “Practical AI for Business,” will be held Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Whited Room, Bynum Commons. David Shebay, managing partner and chief product officer of CFGI’s Global Managed Services, will discuss how businesses are using AI to produce real results, covering case studies, risk points, governance and execution strategies. The event is co-sponsored by Centenary’s Frost School of Business.
The third installment, “You Are Training for a Job That Doesn’t Exist Yet: AI, Clinical Partnership, and the Future of Medicine,” will be held Nov. 17 at 11:15 a.m. in the Whited Room, Bynum Commons. Dr. Jason Hill, system vice chair for hospital medicine and innovation at Ochsner Health, will discuss how AI is already helping clinicians learn, document, communicate and make decisions, and how future physicians can prepare for a profession being reshaped by the technology. This event is co-sponsored by Centenary’s School of Health Sciences.
