Centenary hosts ’Cooking for a Cause’ to help students in need

Centenary College invites you to support “Cooking for a Cause” on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, known as “The Caf” to students. The event raises awareness about food insecurity on college campuses. At least a dozen college campuses in Louisiana and Mississippi will participate as part of Hunger Action Month.

Students helping fellow students in-need is the goal of “Cooking for a Cause.” Donations will be accepted the entire week September 29th.  For every dollar donated, a meal swipe will be given to the campus food pantry or the Swipe Out Hunger Program.

This year’s event will not feature a traditional “cook-off.” Instead, it will be a showcase of culinary talent and resourcefulness.  Sodexo’s featured guest executive chef, Gerald Schwandt, from Dillard University will be at Centenary on Tuesday to share creative dishes with Centenary students. In exchange, Centenary’s Executive Chef Susan Thomas will travel to Dillard University to prepare dishes for their students. Each chef will prepare creative dishes using one food pantry staple along with two food pantry items, highlighting both creativity and sustainability in cooking.

Sodexo and SodexoMagic launched Cooking for a Cause in September 2024.  The last campaign raised more than $2,500 dollars in in-kind donations, mores than 600 non-perishable food items, and 3,000 meals donated to Swipe Out Hunger.
