Centenary named a 2018-2019 College of Distinction

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary has been recognized as a “College of Distinction” for 2018-2019 by Colleges of Distinction, a popular resource for students and families engaged in the college search process. Colleges of Distinction attempts to move beyond ranking formulas and lists to highlight colleges, like Centenary, that consistently excel at educating undergraduate students and preparing them to be engaged and successful citizens.

“Centenary is a small college with a big impact,” says Dr. Jenifer K. Ward, provost and dean of the College at Centenary. “From our signature Centenary in Paris program to our athletic successes and great placement rates in graduate and professional schools, our distinctiveness lies in the commitment of our faculty and staff to provide an integrated and personalized experience to every student who joins our community.”

The Colleges of Distinction team has identified four elements of successful colleges: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes. Calling these elements “the four distinctions,” the organization’s website and guidebook features detailed school profiles that explain how each institution commits to achieving them. Colleges are considered for inclusion in the guide based on conversations with people “in the know,” including high school guidance counselors, parents, students, and professors.

Centenary’s profile on the 2018-2019 Colleges of Distinction website highlights the College’s global and experiential learning opportunities, including its #1 ranking among baccalaureate colleges for the percentage of students who study abroad and the one of a kind Centenary in Paris program for all first-year students. The site also educates prospective students about the recently revamped TREK program, evidence of Centenary’s commitment to great teaching and its success in providing engaging learning experiences for students.

Students using the guide can also learn about Centenary’s student organizations, Division III athletic teams, and full calendar of intellectual and cultural activities that contribute to a vibrant campus community. Information on the extensive student support and career resources available at Centenary points to some of the College’s most impressive outcomes, including a 90% acceptance rate for Centenary students applying to medical school.
