Centenary Wind Ensemble plans spring concerts

SHREVEPORT – The Centenary Wind Ensemble, directed by Thomas Hundemer, will present its Spring 2022 concerts on Sunday, April 10, at 3:00 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium and Monday, April 11, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hargrove Memorial Amphitheater. Both concerts are free and open to the public.

The program features solo turns by vocalist Dartagnan Bennett and saxophonist James Harris in music by American composer Duke Ellington, as well as Shreveport Symphony cellist Brett Andrews in Shostakovich's Cello Concerto as arranged by Andrews. Other selections include the 19th century New Orleans native Edmond Dédé's "El Pronunciamento" (arranged by Hurley Music Librarian Crozet Duplantier), WWI bandleader James Reese Europe's "Castle House Rag,” Vaughan Williams' "Toccata Marziale,” Ronald Lo Presti's tribute to John F Kennedy, "Elegy for a Young American,” and more.

The Centenary Wind Ensemble is a 35-piece band made up of students, faculty, staff, and community musicians dedicated to performing the great music of the wind band repertoire.
