Centenary Youth Orchestra plans summer chamber music camp

SHREVEPORT, LA — The Centenary Youth Orchestra (CYO) will present a Summer Chamber Music Camp June 14-17, 2021, at Centenary’s Hurley School of Music. The camp includes daily instruction in small ensembles and a daily music theory class, and will culminate in an outdoor performance featuring all of the ensembles.

"Learning to play chamber music as a youngster was one of the most enjoyable and formative experiences in my life" said CYO director Dan Santelices. "The camp's objective is to place student instrumentalists in small groups (ensembles) where they will learn to play their assigned pieces together. Celebrated area professional teacher-musicians who are especially experienced in working with young people will guide the groups in a daily practice session.”

The cost of the camp is $150 for CYO members and $160 for non-CYO members. Application forms are online at centenary.edu/cyocamp. Camp participants and audience members must adhere to Centenary College's Forward Safely protocols.

"I am so happy to bring back this opportunity to students after having to shutter last summer,” said Santelices. “The protocols will help insure the safety of all the campers and teachers."
