Former Centenary College President John Horton Allen dies at 102

Dr. John Horton Allen, president of Centenary College from 1969-1976, passed away in Burlington, Kansas, earlier this month. He was a native of Homer, Louisiana, attended college at Northwestern State University, and was a decorated World War II fighter pilot.  After leaving the military, he received his PhD at Pennsylvania State University. 

He held numerous roles as professor and administrator during his career in education.  As president of Centenary College, he helped navigate the turbulent social, political, and economic waters of the early 1970s.

He retired in 1994 as assistant dean of psychiatry at Louisiana State Medical Center.  He is survived by his wife and numerous relatives.
