New Centenary president to open academic year at annual convocation

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College president Dr. Christopher L. Holoman will welcome students, faculty, and staff back to campus on Thursday, August 25 at the annual President's Convocation. The 11:00 a.m. gathering in Brown Chapel is the traditional opening to the College's academic year and is free and open to the public.

The convocation will mark Holoman's first public address to the campus and community since becoming Centenary's 31st president in July 2016. In a talk entitled "Reflections on Journeying," he will offer a message directed to the entering Class of 2020. Holoman recently spent several days in Paris, France with the freshman class during the College’s one-of-a-kind Centenary in Paris program.

Holoman comes to Centenary from Hilbert College in Hamburg, New York. A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, he earned both doctorate and master's degrees in political science from the University of Chicago. He also holds a bachelor of arts from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, majoring in international relations with a focus on economics. He has authored numerous papers and articles on international policy, cooperation, and monetary policy. Holoman served on the faculty at the State University of New York at Buffalo and at Hilbert College before being named Vice President and Provost at Hilbert in 2007.

The President's Convocation also includes music by the Centenary College Choir and the presentation of the 2016-2017 Honor Court by Honor Court Chief Justice Alex Britten '17.
