New Orleans dermatologist, Dr. Mamina Turegano, to deliver commencement address for Centenary College Class of 2026

Dr. Mamina Turegano, a triple board-certified dermatologist, internist, and dermatopathologist practicing in New Orleans, will address graduates during Centenary College’s annual commencement exercises on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in the Gold Dome.

Turegano graduated summa cum laude from Centenary College in 2005. She studied neuroscience and piano performance and received her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She then completed a five-year double residency program in internal medicine and dermatology and served as chief resident at Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. After working in private practice dermatology in the metro D.C. area, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a fellowship in dermatopathology at UCLA. She returned home to New Orleans in 2016 and joined Sanova Dermatology.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Turegano back to campus as our 2026 Commencement speaker,” said Centenary president Dr. Christopher L. Holoman. “She has built an impressive career in medicine but also remained a lifelong learner, exploring new and innovative applications for her knowledge and skills. I look forward to hearing the perspective she will share with our graduates.”

Turegano holds a certificate in integrative dermatology, blending traditional and holistic approaches to skin health. Given her background in internal medicine, Turegano also has an interest in complex medical dermatology, including autoimmune skin diseases and psoriasis. Through her social media platforms, she shares expert skincare advice, science-backed holistic strategies, and insights into dermatological conditions, making skin health knowledge accessible to all.

“Centenary taught me how to think – critically, creatively, and outside the box,” said Turegano. “It opened my eyes to perspectives I never would have encountered otherwise. The humanities courses especially shaped the way I approach medicine and people. The most important things I learned at Centenary weren’t always in a textbook – they were in the hallways, the conversations, the community. Centenary taught me that a smile goes a long way. That taking the time to truly know someone matters. In medicine, that lesson shows up every single day.”

Her work has been published in prestigious journals, including The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), JAMA Dermatology, Pediatric Dermatology, and The Journal of Cutaneous Pathology. Turegano is also a co-author of The Holistic Psoriasis Management & Nutrition Guide and authored the chapter “Cosmeceuticals for Acne and Rosacea” in the textbook Cosmeceuticals.

The 2026 commencement exercises at Centenary begin at 10:30 a.m. and are free and open to the public. More information, including live streaming links available on the day of the ceremony, is at centenary.edu/graduation.
