Senior art exhibition opens at Centenary’s Meadows Museum of Art

SHREVEPORT, LA — Lauren Tuggle, a 2021 Centenary graduate, opens her senior art exhibition at the College’s Meadows Museum of Art on Friday, November 5. The exhibition, quarantine dreams, explores the isolation and turmoil of the pandemic. Visitors to the Meadows Museum can view quarantine dreams through December 4.

The exhibition consists entirely of paintings purposefully hung in a disjointed way to emphasize the loss of normalcy and order during quarantine. Tuggle’s 42 acrylic paintings on birch panels continually focus on distorted faces, hands, and eyes that “search for a way out.”

“Each dream I depict has a personal meaning to me, and I would not spoil the fun of finding one’s own meaning by holding your hand and explaining them to you,” wrote Tuggle in her artist statement for the exhibition. “You may theorize all day about the artist’s intent, but ultimately, the dream belongs to you as much as it does to me. Nearly every human on earth now has the shared experience of quarantine in the face of a deadly pandemic, and it has affected us all in different ways.”

Tuggle was born and raised in Benton, Louisiana, and graduated from the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts in Natchitoches in 2017. She has drawn and painted throughout her entire life since young childhood, and works primarily with digital illustration, especially drawing people and characters and posting art on social media. She enjoys exploring color, mood, and expression in her art. While at Centenary, she served as an intern at the Meadows Museum and also won a Silver ADDY Award from the Advertising Federation of Shreveport-Bossier for her cover designs for a series of young adult novels.

All pieces exhibited as part of quarantine dreams are for sale. The works can be viewed and purchased at latuggle.com.

quarantine dreams is the inaugural senior capstone exhibition to be held at the Meadows Museum and will be followed by another senior exhibition opening in January 2022.
