"Sound + Light" artist Craig Colorusso to visit Centenary campus next week

SHREVEPORT, LA — Artist Craig Colorusso will visit Centenary’s campus March 7 and 8 for public programming at the conclusion of his spring exhibition Sound + Light.

Beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, Colorusso will give a live performance in the Meadows Museum of Art, followed by an artist talk at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.

At 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, Colorusso will partner with A.J. Haynes, Centenary alumna and Magale Library campus guest, to offer Sound + Yoga. Attendees will enjoy a special auditory experience while Haynes leads yoga in Centenary’s Arboretum outside of the Fitness Center. This event is free and open to the public, and attendees should bring their own mat, towel, or blanket for yoga.

“These events will complement the immersive experiences that Craig’s installations have brought to Centenary, including the popular Sun Boxes that have traveled around campus this spring,” says Meadows Museum director Alissa Klaus. “Each solar-powered speaker plays a distinct note from the Bb chord on a loop, and as they are cast in and out of shadow, the sound pattern evolves over time. As we have placed these twenty speakers around the College this semester, they have complemented the natural beauty of Centenary’s campus.”

While on campus, Colorusso will also meet with art students and students enrolled in the Music Technology course, as his works feature a dynamic blend of wood, metal, fabric, and electronics to create immersive light and sound environments.

The exhibition in the Meadows showcases two of Colorusso's other works: CUBEMUSIC and AWASH. CUBEMUSIC consists of six 4’ aluminum cubes adorned with intricate geometric cutouts. Light sources within each cube pulse and fade, casting captivating shadows that dance across the space. Simultaneously, four-note guitar chords emanate from each cube, filling the room with a symphony of ethereal melodies.

A digital masterpiece, AWASH invites participants to engage in a collaborative sonic experience. As pre-recorded tracks play intermittently, visitors use their own cellular devices to contribute to the evolving soundscape, adding layers of depth to the ambient hum that permeates the room. Designed for group interaction, AWASH fosters communal creativity.

Sound + Light will close at 5:00 p.m. on March 8.
