Ali Montazerighahjaverestani (aka Ali Montazeri) is an Iranian composer, târ player, and music teacher.  He began his musical training in keyboard and theory in 1990. Since 1996, Ali started to learning the târ (a traditional Iranian instrument). He has collaborated with many Iranian bands since 1997. Afterward, Ali became interested in composition and began learning harmony and counterpoint. He entered the music school of Art University in Tehran and received a master’s degree in composition in 2006. He was awarded for the best thesis of the year in the Art University in 2006. During his education in the composition program, he composed many pieces for traditional Iranian ensemble, chamber ensemble, vocal, symphonic orchestra, and musical score for short movies.

After graduation, Ali worked as the instructor of “Harmony,” “Theory of Music,” and “Form in Iranian Music” in the music department of Art University after my graduation. In August 2011, he went to Canada to continue his education in composition under Dr. Carrabre at Brandon University. In all of these compositions, he blends some Iranian classical music elements with western post-tonal compositional techniques. In August 2013, he moved to the United States and started a DMA program in composition at Texas Tech University under the supervision of Dr. Mei-Fang Lin. He was the instructor of the Introduction to contemporary music at Texas Tech University during his education.  In August 2017, Ali started a new graduate program in music theory at the University of North Texas. During that time, he collaborated with in many international projects, including “The Voices and Bridges,” a multi-cultural and multi-lingual collaboration between musicians from various regions of the world. He also collaborated with some bands such as “Borderless band” as arranger and târ and bass târ player.
