Centenary celebrates Homecoming October 30 through November 5

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary’s 2023 Homecoming celebration begins Monday, October 30, and continues through the following weekend, highlighting alumni achievements, cultural activities, student organizations, and athletics at the College.

“We are excited to welcome alumni and friends back to campus for Homecoming 2023,” said Katie Chopin ’16, director of alumni and family relations. “This year’s Homecoming festivities are a wonderful time to recognize alumni accomplishments, specifically during the annual Alumni Awards banquet, Forward 5 luncheon, and Quinq Club brunch.”

Homecoming 2023 opens on Monday, October 30 with the fall concert from Camerata, Centenary’s choral ensemble. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium at the College’s Hurley School of Music. It is free and open to the public. Another free community event during the Homecoming week is the Athletics “Spooktacular” Halloween party hosted by Centenary Athletics. Geared toward children and families, the Spooktacular held on Centenary’s Mayo Field begins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, and features candy, games, and other fun, safe activities.

The mid-point of the Homecoming week – Wednesday, November 1 – is headlined by the announcement of the Homecoming Court at 7:30 p.m. in the Gold Dome. The announcement comes in between basketball games pitting Centenary against its cross-town rival, LSUS. The Ladies game begins at 5:30 p.m. and the Gents at 8:00 p.m., immediately following the court announcement. The 2023 Alumni Awards Dinner will be held on Thursday, November 2, at 6:00 p.m. in the Whited Room in Bynum Commons. The Alumni Awards Dinner honors alumni who have brought distinction to the College, and this year’s awards include:

  • Alumni Hall of Fame – Herb Lang ‘98
  • Alumni Loyalty Award – David Henington ‘82
  • Young Alumni Leadership Award – Matthew Wallace ‘10
  • Honorary Alumna – Mary Sue Rix
  • Bentley Sloane/CLC Award – Adam Philley ‘09

Recognition for Centenary alumni continues on Friday, November 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the Whited Room, with the second annual Forward 5 Awards Luncheon honoring young alumni for having made a significant impact in business, research, leadership, public service, and/or philanthropic endeavors. The 2023 Forward 5 recipients include:

  • Dr. Tierra Range ‘16

Additional Homecoming events on Friday include the annual “Walk Like MADD” fundraising walk sponsored by Centenary Gymnastics, Greek Life open houses, and Maroon Madness at the Gold Dome, hosted by Centenary Athletics. Maroon Madness begins at 10:00 p.m. and is the official kickoff for Centenary’s winter sports season, featuring fun contests and giveaways.

Saturday, November 4, is a full day on campus, beginning with the Quinq Club Brunch for 50+ year graduates, a Homecoming lunch, and a special College announcement in the Shell at 12:00 p.m. Immediately following the special announcement, the 2023 Homecoming Court royalty will be announced and Homecoming awards will be presented to student organizations. The annual Alumni Swim Meet at the Centenary Fitness Center pool follows the morning’s activities at 1:00 p.m.

The Centenary College Choir’s annual “Rhapsody in View” program brings Homecoming week to a close with performances at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 5. Performances will be held at Shreveport’s First Baptist Church, 543 Ockley Drive. Tickets can be purchased from Centenary College Choir members and Downtown Lions Club members, and are also available at the College’s Hurley School of Music and all Porters Cleaners locations.
