Centenary Opera and Camerata to perform musical theater numbers November 7-8

Centenary's Hurley School of Music presents Scenes 3: Operata, A Study in Musical Theater Storytelling which is a collaborative production between Centenary's Camerata and Opera Centenary. Two performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on November 7 and 8 in Anderson Auditorium. It is free to attend.
This year's program features scenes from beloved works including Wicked, Annie Get Your Gun, Cinderella, Gypsy, Rent, West Side Story, The Gondoliers, and more. From heartfelt duets to energetic ensemble numbers, Scenes 3: Operata highlights the expressive range of Centenary's student performers and celebrates the collaborative spirit at the heart of the Hurley School of Music.
"As the leader of Centenary Camerata, my goals are always centered around student outcomes and their intellectual and artistic development," said Dr. Cory Wikan, Dean of the Hurley School of Music and Associate Professor of Music. "Our recent collaboration with Opera Centenary has been both a tremendous pleasure and a meaningful educational opportunity. It allows our students to engage deeply with the demands of ensemble singing on stage--an experience that challenges them to refine the ability to move, act, and sing simultaneously."
Dr. Briana Sosenheimer, Director of Opera Centenary, said these programs offer Centenary students a chance to explore everything from classic opera to contemporary musical theater allowing them to grow as versatile and expressive performers.
“We are committed to immersing our students in a wide range of musical styles and genres,” said Dr. Sosenheimer. “This is the third Scenes program we've explored as Opera Centenary. We began with love songs, then moved into recontextualized staging, and now we're focusing on musical theater storytelling.”
