Centenary to sign guaranteed interview agreement with LSU Health Shreveport MD program
SHREVEPORT, LA — On Tuesday, November 1, Centenary College and Louisiana State University Health Shreveport’s School of Medicine will formalize a guaranteed interview agreement for Centenary students seeking admission to LSU Health Shreveport’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. Representatives from both institutions will sign the agreement in a ceremony at 11:00 a.m. in the Hall of Fame Room in Bynum Commons on the Centenary campus.
President Dr. Christopher L. Holoman, provost and dean of the College Dr. Karen Soul, and professor of biology Dr. Scott Chirhart will represent Centenary while Dr. David Lewis, Dean of the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine, Dr. Wanda Thomas, Associate Dean of Admissions, and Dr. Vinh Nguyen, Chair, Admissions Committee will be in attendance to represent LSU Health Shreveport.
The new agreement will guarantee an admission interview for the LSU Health Shreveport MD program for Centenary students who meet specific requirements, including a minimum 3.5 GPA and a minimum 504 MCAT score along with strong Centenary faculty recommendations. As part of the agreement, representatives from the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine will coordinate and host pre-med information meetings at Centenary and visit the College annually to recruit students for the MD program.
“Centenary has an exceptional record of sending outstanding students to the School of Medicine at LSU Health Shreveport,” said Centenary president Dr. Christopher L. Holoman. “I am very pleased that this will streamline that process and allow both of our great institutions to grow. We look forward to working together to provide excellent health care providers for our region and our state.”
“LSU Health Shreveport values this opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Centenary College through this MOU as it supports our goal of keeping our brightest students in the community for their medical education” stated Dr. David Lewis.
The MD program guaranteed interview agreement strengthens existing ties between Centenary and LSU Health. The two institutions signed a guaranteed interview agreement for the physician assistant (PA) studies program at LSU Health Shreveport’s School of Allied Health Professions in October 2020. In the past five years, Centenary has expanded post-graduate opportunities for students though preferred admission and guaranteed interview agreements in nursing, pharmacy, and osteopathic medicine.
