Homecoming returns to Centenary College campus November 5-13

SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary College looks forward to welcoming current students and alumni to Homecoming Week events on campus from Friday, November 5, through Saturday, November 13. All events will be held in-person, although some events will also offer a virtual option. All Homecoming guests must follow Centenary’s COVID-19 safety policies available at centenary.edu/covid.

“We’re excited to offer in-person Homecoming activities again for students and alumni,” said Katie Chopin ’16, director of alumni and family relations at Centenary. “We have a week-long celebration planned highlighting various areas of campus, from the Centenary College Choir’s Rhapsody in View, to athletic events, to alumni reunions.”

The Centenary Ladies basketball team faces LeTourneau University in a 6:00 p.m. contest at the Gold Dome on Friday, November 5, to open the Homecoming Week festivities. Other athletic events throughout the week include the Gents basketball team’s home opener on November 9 vs. Arlington Baptist and a meeting with crosstown rival LSUS on November 11, Ladies basketball vs. Louisiana College on November 12, the Gents and Ladies swimming teams vs. Hendrix College on November 13, and alumni gatherings for lacrosse and baseball in addition to the annual Tau Kappa Epsilon alumni vs. active football game. The Centenary College Choir’s annual “Rhapsody in View” program headlines the first weekend of Homecoming Week with performances at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 7. Performances will be held at Shreveport’s First Baptist Church, 543 Ockley Drive. Tickets can be purchased from Centenary College Choir members and Downtown Lions Club members, and are also available at the College’s Hurley School of Music and all Porters Cleaners locations. The 2021 Alumni Awards Dinner will be held on Tuesday, November 9, at 6:00 p.m. in the Centenary Fitness Center. The Awards Dinner honors alumni who have brought distinction to the College, and this year’s awards include:

  • Alumni Loyalty Award – Stephen Pitters ’71 & Barry Milligan ‘03
  • Young Alumni Leadership Award – Michael Jarboe ‘10
  • Alumni Hall of Fame – J. Stafford Comegys ‘82
  • Honorary Alumnus – Eddie Walker
  • Athletic Hall of Fame – Debbie Bailey Spencer ‘71

Centenary’s annual Veterans Day Tribute, featuring remarks by Major General James W. Graves (Ret), United States Air Force, will be held during Homecoming Week in the College’s Hargrove Memorial Amphitheater on Thursday, November 11, at 11:11 a.m.

A full schedule of student events, including a Homecoming chapel service, window painting and Brinner in the Caf, a tailgate, the traditional gumbo and cookie cook-off, and a bonfire with live music, is available at centenary.edu/homecoming.
