‘Spotlight Centenary’ celebration and drone show to cap bicentennial year

Centenary College of Louisiana will conclude its year-long bicentennial celebration with Spotlight Centenary on Saturday, December 6, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Centenary Gold Dome. Tickets are on sale now for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Hosted by Centenary alumnus Herb “Flight Time” Lang (’98), the event will feature a performance of a bicentennial commission by the Centenary College Choir and a custom drone light show by Sky Elements Drone Shows, finalists on America’s Got Talent Season 19. The program will also include an historic announcement from Centenary President Dr. Christopher L. Holoman, as Centenary embarks into its third century.

Spotlight Centenary is co-chaired by John E. Atkins (H’16) and his wife, Lindsay (’01), who have played a key role in bringing this milestone celebration to life.

“Lindsay and I are honored and delighted to chair this momentous event, said Atkins, a member of Centenary’s Board of Trustees.  “We like to think of the evening as a grand reunion opportunity for alumni and friends of the college.” Atkins’ great-grandfather provided the land where Centenary now sits. His family was instrumental in moving Centenary from Jackson, La. to Shreveport in the early 1900s.

Lang, a former Harlem Globetrotter and motivational speaker, is known for his TEDx talk “Kindness is Free” and for promoting positivity and connection around the world.

Spotlight Centenary serves as a magnificent finale to a year of bicentennial festivities including:

  • A standing-room-only campus birthday celebration launching the bicentennial year.
  • An extensive, interactive exhibit at the Meadows Museum of Art chronicling 200 years of Centenary history.
  • A bicentennial worship service honoring the College’s historic connection to the United Methodist Church.
  • A neighborhood Mardi Gras party hosted by the College for the Highland Parade.
  • The student Bicentennial Bash.Centenary’s Art Stroll, an evening celebrating art, music, and poetry across campus, at which Bruce Allen’s iconic “Spirit of the Bicentennial” sculpture was unveiled.
  • Record-breaking Homecoming attendance, featuring more than 200 alumni choir members in a reunion performance at Rhapsody in View.

Tickets are $150 per person or $2,000 per table, which include a chef-curated dinner, a live DJ and dancing, and an open bar available for guests ages 21 and older.  For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit centenary200.com.
