Can you describe your role within the Executive Office of the President and the responsibilities you hold?
In my current role, I serve the President of the United States in the Office of Management and Budget(OMB). The Office of Management and Budget oversees the implementation of the President’s vision across the Executive Branch. OMB carries out its mission through five main functions across executive departments and agencies:

  1. Budget development and execution.
  2. Management, including oversight of agency performance, procurement, financial management, and information technology.
  3. Coordination and review of all significant Federal regulations from executive agencies, privacy policy, information policy, and review and assessment of information collection requests.
  4. Clearance and coordination of legislative and other materials, including agency testimony, legislative proposals, and other communications with Congress, and coordination of other Presidential actions.
  5. Clearance of Presidential Executive Orders and memoranda to agency heads prior to their issuance.


How have your education and experiences at Centenary influenced your career choices and trajectory?

My education and experiences at Centenary have had a profound impact on my career choices and trajectory. Centenary provided me with a top-notch education and played a pivotal role in shaping my professional journey.

Here are a few ways in which Centenary influenced my career path:

  • Building a strong work ethic: Working in President Dr. Holoman’s Office for three years, and at a local church nursery on Wednesday evenings and Sundays allowed me to develop a strong work ethic. These experiences taught me the importance of dedication, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Learning from world-class professors: Centenary boasts a faculty of highly knowledgeable and experienced professors who have been instrumental in my academic and personal growth. Their support and guidance have shaped my career trajectory.
  • Immersion in French culture and literature: One of the most transformative experiences during my time at Centenary was the opportunity to study abroad and immerse myself in French culture and literature during a module in Paris, France. This experience broadened my horizons and enhanced my cultural competence.
  • Creating lifelong friendships: The close-knit community at Centenary has fostered meaningful connections and friendships that have lasted beyond graduation. These friendships provide ongoing support, mentorship, and networking opportunities which have been invaluable in shaping my career choices.

Overall, Centenary’s exceptional education, supportive community, and diverse experiences have played a significant role in shaping my career trajectory. I am grateful for the opportunities and skills I gained during my time at Centenary, and I am confident that they will continue to guide me in my professional journey.

 

What inspired you to pursue your career path after graduating from Centenary?

After graduating from Centenary, I was inspired to pursue my career path by my passion for public service. During my time at Centenary, I had the opportunity to serve on the Shreveport Mayor's Women's Commission as the youngest commissioner and secretary. This experience allowed me to witness the positive impact that public service can have on the community. Additionally, I participated in several summer internships, which further solidified my desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Overall, my experiences at Centenary and my involvement in public service motivated me to pursue a career path dedicated to serving others.


What advice would you give young graduates as they begin navigating the professional world outside of Centenary?

  • Keep God first in all that you do - He will guide you, order your steps, and direct your path.
  • Work hard: success in the professional world requires dedication and effort. Be willing to put in the necessary work and time to achieve your goals and make a positive impact in your chosen field.
  • Persevere through adversity: challenges and setbacks are inevitable but it’s important to stay resilient. Use these experiences as opportunities for growth and learning. Embrace the mindset of perseverance and keep pushing forward.
