Extraordinary generosity from alumni, parents, foundations, and other friends of the school has made a big difference to the Ladies and Gents of Centenary. But it is not only large donations that make a difference. Consistent small gifts, over time, have the potential to make a huge impact on the College

Centenary does not have detailed records of giving history prior to 1989, but we do have record of 12 donors who have consistently given for the past 34 years.:
Dr. Bob Schwendimann, Louisiana Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, Mr. George D. Nelson, Jr., Dr. Earle Labor, Hope Pierce Tartt Foundation, Mr. David T. Henington, Ms. Mary Sue Rix, Mrs. Alice Buchanan Schwendimann, Mr. Edward J. Crawford III, The Community Foundation of North Louisiana, Dr. Patsy King Barber, and Mr. Bruce W. Allen.

David Henington, ’82, has an interesting history with the College as an alumnus, former alumni board president, donor and former employee. He started working for Centenary in 1989 and held various positions at the College until he retired in 2019. He has been a consistent giver for over 34 years and continues to support Centenary in any way he can to give more students an opportunity to have a great education. “That's why I continue to give. Because it does support students and it underwrites unfunded scholarships,” said Henington.
In an effort to involve young alumni in the giving process, there is now a focus on finding new ways to cultivate consistent donors and instill a culture of giving. The goal is to create a habit of giving because major and planned gifts often come from those who start off making smaller gifts or continue to give year after year. “Before I retired, I was helping others put Centenary in their estate plans. Of course, one of the first things I did was add Centenary to my estate plans as well. Then when my grandmother turned 100, I set up a scholarship in her honor and in memory of my dad because they made sure I was educated, and I wanted to extend that opportunity to someone else,” said Hennington.
