The department offers co-curricular educational opportunities while encouraging majors to become thoroughly involved on campus. Student media groups provide creative outlets and opportunities for publication and professional development.

The Conglomerate

The Conglomerate, lovingly known as The Congo, is the digital student newspaper of Centenary College. The paper regularly covers local and global news, culture, and entertainment. Because The Congo is digital, we also publish podcasts and videos in our Multimedia section! Read the latest issue on our website, and follow us on Instagram! If you are interested in joining the paper, please contact us on Engage.

Red River Poetry Society

This organization aims to provide a stress-free environment where students can discuss and write poetry without the strict rigor that can be present in the classroom. Red River Poetry Society is open to any student, regardless of major or year, to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to explore the beauty, mystery, and magic that encompasses the genre. During our meetings, members discuss pieces from published poets on a predetermined theme, participate in writing exercises, and offer constructive criticism during workshops. In doing so, members can build their confidence and become more inclined to study or write poetry later in academic settings or for fun.

Aside from scheduled meetings, Red River Poetry Society hosts Open Mic Nights where all students, not just club members, can present poetry they are passionate about, either a piece they wrote themselves or a piece from their favorite poet. If you are interested in learning more or attending our next meeting, please get in touch with us at redriverpoetrysociety@gmail.com. You can also follow Red River Poetry Society on Instagram and check us out on Engage

Centenary Film Society

Through our partnership with the Robinson Film Center in downtown Shreveport, we help sponsor films and discussions related to the role and function of film and media in society. We particularly emphasize the importance of international, independent, documentary, and classic film as a cultural force well worth celebrating and analyzing. Follow us on Instagram, contact us through Engage.
